OOP Digital Desk: While Rohit Sharma made the entire country proud with his third century in one-day cricket that helped India beat Sri Lanka in Mohali on 13 December, there was one person who didn’t find the Indian stand-in skipper’s achievements much to cheer for.
Model and actress Sofia Hayat, who once dated Rohit Sharma, said that she is happy with the cricketer getting success. But people are encouraging gender discrimination. They are clapping just because Rohit is a man, she said, adding that none went crazy when Kanchanmala Pande won a gold medal. Kanchanmala deserved more applause and encouragement than Rohit. I would celebrate something better or some social cause, and certainly not his double century, Sofia said.
Kanchanmala, a visually challenged athlete, recently became the first Indian swimmer to win a gold medal at the World Para Swimming Championships held in Mexico City earlier this month.
It’s an old habit of Rohit Sharma to credit his partner for his achievements, Sofia said, referring to the cricketer dedicating the Mohali win to his wife Ritika Sajdeh. The Britain-born model claimed she used to cry when Rohit played bad. Sofia said, she is happy that Rohit has finally found someone who is helping him to move on from her.
