While in Tigerland

If spotting the reclusive yellow and black stripes is your only reason to visit a game reserve, look no further than this. A couple of days at Bandhavgarh should net you a tiger, except maybe in October. Even bird watchers can have a field day here.

Bahndhavgarh has the highest density of Bengal tigers in any reserve forest in India. According to the 2014 tiger census, Bahndhavgarh has 68 tigers over a relatively small forest area (453 sqkm). It’s almost neck and neck with Ranthambhore in Rajasthan for tiger spotting. Bahndhavgarh also has more than 40 leopards, and commonly sighted animals like the wild boar, deer, and the langur. February to June is usually the best time for tiger spotting.

Bahndhavgarh didn’t disappoint me during my two-day stay at the Madhya Pradesh (MP) tourism resort inside the forest. I was lucky to spot the striped lord on more than one occasion. The heat was disturbing though but not as unbearable and humid as in my hometown Kolkata.

Here it is then. Some of my selected snaps from the forest at the heart of India.
